Kumaryasava is an Ayurvedic medicine commonly used in the treatment of urinary, respiratory, and digestive diseases. Kumaryasavam is available in a liquid form and contains self-generated alcohol that serves as a media for the active compounds in the herbs.

The main ingredient of this medication is Aloe Vera. To prepare this medication, the Aloe Vera juice is extracted from its leaves and then, the rest of the ingredients are added to it. The herbs are used in a coarse powder form. The mixture is kept closed in an air-tight container for the fermentation to occur. After fermentation, the contents are filtered and preserved for future use. The shelf life of this medicine is 10 years. However, after opening the bottle, it should be used within 2 months. It should be stored in a cool and dry place in a tightly closed bottle protected from direct sunlight and moisture.

Kumari Asav (Kumaryasava) can be used in the treatment of bronchitis. It reduces the production of mucus and liquefies the abnormal discharge thus relieving cough. It can reduce the intensity and frequency of the attacks of chronic bronchitis. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory agent and prevents damage to the mucosa lining the bronchi and bronchioles caused by the inflammatory changes. It possesses strong anti-bacterial properties, which help in eliminating the organisms responsible for the infection. It also prevents phthisis and blood in sputum occurring due to the repeated attacks of bronchitis and strengthens the lung tissues.

This medicine should be used for a period of 2 to 4 months. If needed, it can be mixed with equal quantity of water. The doses should be taken after meals to prevent gastric irritation.
