The recommended of Zandu Pancharishta
The exact dosage of Zandu Pancharishta depends on the age of the patient and the severity of the condition. Children between the ages of 6 and 10 years should be given 2.5 to 5 ml of this medicine twice every day. Children above 10 years of age can be treated with a dose of 5 ml, twice every day. The recommended dose for the adults is 15 ml, twice a day.
The patients in the older age group should be given a lower dose of about 10 ml, twice a day. The maximum dosage of this medicine should not exceed 60 ml per day. The medicine should be mixed with an equal amount of water and taken immediately after a meal. The recommended treatment duration ranges from a minimum of 1 month in mild cases to about 6 months in severe cases. Most patients get relief from the ailments within 3 months of using this medicine.
Side effects of Zandu Pancharishta
Zandu Pancharishta is safe for most people. There are no chemicals in this medicine. Hence, it does not cause severe side effects. However, diabetic patients should avoid using this medicine as it may result in a rise in their blood sugar level.
Zandu Pancharishta may not be suitable for the infants and children below the age of 5 years. This medicine should not be used by the pregnant women.
Gastric irritation due to the fermented contents may occur in some patients. It may cause a mild burning sensation in the throat especially when taken without diluting it with water.
Though Pancharishta contains some cooling herbs, which can provide relief from acidity and mouth ulcers; due to the fermentation process involved in its preparation and the alcoholic content, its anti-ulcer effect is reduced to some extent. Hence, patients having a history of mouth ulcers may experience a recurrence of the condition while using this medicine. They should stop using the medicine if they develop mouth ulcers too frequently.
